Who is Ms. Ryan?

The cake I made for our Super Bowl celebration last year.
Not only is Wisconsin home to the World Champion Green Bay Packers and the University of Wisconsin Badgers, it is also the state I call home. I grew up the youngest of four in a small town. I have a relatively large family that is growing every year. I am now up to 4 nieces and 6 nephews. I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I earned my undergraduate degree in education.
After graduating, I moved to Boston, MA to begin my teaching career. I took my first teaching job in Everett, MA, a city just north of the city. I taught math and science at the middle school level there for five years. In August of 2006 I moved to Wiesbaden, Germany where I taught 6th grade at the International School Wiesbaden the sister school to to Frankfurt International School (FIS). While I was abroad, I began working on my graduate degree. I will complete my master's in middle school math by Spring of this year.
During my free time I like to bake, watch movies, run, bike, swim, cheer on the Badgers and Packers, and spend time with my family and friends. I have friends and family lives all over the world so I spend my vacations traveling to visit them.

I feel pretty lucky to have had the chance to live abroad for as long as I did. Living in Central Europe allowed me to visit some of the most amazing places. My favorites include Ireland, Iceland, Turkey, Spain, Italy and Egypt. However, the most meaningful experiences surrounded the service projects that I was involved with through my school, FIS. During the summer of 2007 I joined the school on a teaching mission in the Moshawang Valley of South Africa. The students who I had the pleasure of working with were of families who were displaced during apartheid. Together with students from FIS we taught science to Tswana students to help them pass their national test which is given only in English. While we were there, we managed to install internet for the first time ever in the school and set up a program that provided lunch for the students during the school day. If you want to learn more about the service project I supported in South Africa, click on the picture above.
During our spring vacation every year FIS takes students to Poland to live with and volunteer in an orphanage in Poland. I was lucky enough to be chosen to mentor these students through their experience.
